As the United States reaches 250 years, AllSides and Together for 250 gathered writers’ perspectives on that question, and USHBC President and CEO Javier Palomarez is among them. His contribution comes from his own life: he worked in the fields long before he sat in boardrooms or met with elected officials.
He has watched founders build companies that employ hundreds of people. He has also seen what he describes as “doors that are technically open but much harder to walk through,” depending on someone’s connections or background. Palomarez makes the case that the nearly 5 million Hispanic-owned businesses in the country should be understood as job creators and taxpayers keeping local economies running, and not as a special interest.
